KNX Actuators Market – Report Overview

The Global KNX Actuators Market was valued at USD 2,569.32 million in 2025 and is projected to reach USD 8,240.16 million by 2035, growing at a CAGR of 12.36% during the forecast period 2025–2035.

The KNX actuators market covers the development, manufacturing, distribution and deployment of actuator devices that control electrical and building functions within KNX-based automation systems. KNX actuators receive commands from KNX sensors, controllers and other network devices and turn them into physical actions such as switching, dimming, regulating or positioning equipment, across lighting, HVAC, blinds and shutters, heating, ventilation and energy management in residential, commercial, industrial and institutional buildings.

Because KNX is an open, standardized protocol, actuators from different manufacturers work together on one network. They enable centralized and automated control, operate equipment by occupancy, schedules, daylight and temperature to save energy, and scale easily as buildings change. Manufacturers are developing compact, multi-channel, energy-monitoring and digitally configurable actuators, with growing integration into IoT platforms, visualization systems and renewable energy installations.

1

Centralized Control

One KNX network manages lighting, shading, HVAC and loads.

2

Energy Efficiency

Occupancy, daylight and schedule-based control cuts waste.

3

Open & Interoperable

Devices from 500+ KNX manufacturers work together.

4

Scalable & Secure

Systems expand easily, with KNX Secure encryption.

How a KNX System Works

In a KNX installation, sensors send commands over a shared bus and actuators carry them out. Every device has its own intelligence, so there is no single central controller to fail, and systems are configured with the common ETS engineering tool.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between KNX TP, KNX RF and KNX IP?

KNX TP uses a dedicated two-wire bus cable and is the most common, reliable choice for new buildings. KNX RF is wireless, which makes it ideal for retrofitting existing homes without new wiring. KNX IP runs over Ethernet networks, giving fast backbone connections and links to building management and cloud systems.

What is KNX Secure and why does it matter?

KNX Secure adds encryption and authentication to KNX communication. KNX Data Secure protects device messages, and KNX IP Secure protects traffic on IP networks. It shields connected buildings from unauthorised access, which is increasingly required in commercial and public projects.

How do KNX actuators help save energy?

KNX actuators switch and dim lighting by occupancy and daylight, move blinds to manage solar heat, and control heating valves and fan coils to match demand. Advanced actuators also measure energy use per circuit. Schneider Electric states that its SpaceLogic KNX system can cut energy costs by up to 40%.

Can KNX actuators from different brands work together?

Yes. KNX is an open international standard (EN 50090 and ISO/IEC 14543-3), so certified devices from different manufacturers can share one installation. They are configured with the common ETS engineering software, so building owners aren’t locked into a single brand.

What is a DALI KNX actuator?

A DALI KNX actuator, or gateway, connects KNX building control to DALI digital lighting. This allows individual dimming, scenes and tunable-white colour control of LED fixtures. One example is the Siemens N 525D11, which controls up to 20 DALI ballasts on each of its two outputs.
